Key Responsibilities: Dean of Student’s key responsibilities include:
- Monitor all students’ lateness and absences before the end of the first period and report information to Head/Principal and to organize follow up communications with the parent.
- Ensure that the Receptionist / PCO / Secretary call(s) parents of absent / late students before the end of the first block. All parents’ replies must be recorded on the student’s PowerSchool file.
- Assuring students attend all classes, and monitoring that student movement during class time is authorized via hall passes from teachers.
- Entering students’ breeches of the code of conduct into the PowerSchool system on the day an incident occurs.
- Ensuring that disruptive students report to the school detention room and inform the Head / Principal immediately of students assigned detention and the reason for the assignment.
- Setting a daily meeting with the Head / Principal to discuss the day’s disciplinary issues.
- Monitoring and supervising of dismissal practices including the following: assuring all students exit classrooms, monitoring student hall passage, ensuring that students line up for buses, and monitoring the safety of students leaving the school site.
- Observing and reporting tardiness of teachers for duties and scheduled classes to the Head/Principal.
- Attending parent and staff meetings within the school and on occasion within the ENS system.
- Assisting the head of school/principal in scheduling students in classes and field trips.
- Supporting teachers in the implementation of initial pastoral and academic interventions with students.
- Advising and guiding teachers through the grade, attendance, behavior reporting process within PowerSchool.
- Monitoring and supervising halls and corridors between consecutive periods to support proper student behavior on the campus.
- Monitoring and supervising staff duties and student behavior on the playground, in the gym, in the hallways, and canteen during breaks and lunch periods.
- Conducting weekly school walkabouts to check and report the following:
1. Building maintenance needs,
2. Safety and security concerns around the building, and
3. Operational status of instructional equipment in the classrooms and common areas.
- Attend all Staff meetings and Professional Development as well as the Campus leadership team meetings as required by the Campus Director and,
- Assisting with other duties as assigned by the Head/Principal of the school.
Qualification and Certification: The Dean of Students/Supervisor must be: a qualified, successful teacher; collaborative in their dealings with others; a good communicator in both English and Arabic; able to teach and work with adult learners; committed to the mission and goals of our organization; able to understand and apply research; and is willing to extend his/herself on behalf of the learning of children in Emirates National Schools.
Experience: Minimum of three years of licensed teaching experience and/or one prior year in a leadership role in an educational setting.
Technical Competencies: Strong communications (written and oral in English and Arabic) skills; instructional planning skills; analytical reasoning skills; highly organized; computer input and information management skills; human and fiscal resource management skills; able to facilitate groups of parents, students and staff; strong conflict management skills; and, data driven problem solving and decision making skills.
Leadership and Management Competencies: The Dean of Students must be able to: facilitate and model cooperative student and adult behavior focused on the achievement of goals; facilitate communications between multiple professionals with diverse opinions toward achievement of a goal; develop and implement a philosophy of teamwork within the school; demonstrate professional ethics in dealing with others, and understand role responsibility within an organization.
